JourneyA Collaborative Exhibition of Work by Scottish and Irish Artists
Midland Arts Centre, Mullingar, Ireland
Inverness Museum & Art Gallery, Inverness, Scotland12-29 April / 9 May-10 June 2000
Journey is a mixed media exhibition by professional artists from County Roscommon in Ireland and Ross and Cromarty, Scotland.
The work produced for this show has grown out of a series of exchange visits undertaken by the 15 artists under the Celtic Links Project. These visits have fostered the interaction and exchange of ideas, between the participating artists. This was achieved through reciprocal studio visits, workshops, exhibitions, and 'craic' both in Ireland and Scotland. Some new and probably permanent friendships have been formed and both individually and collectively we have gained a deeper understanding of the similarities and differences between our shared Celtic Heritage. It is to be hoped that the links so far forged across the 'Ditch' can continue to be developed and strengthened.
Celtic Links has been one of the first international cultural exchanges funded under the EU LEADER II Programme. The two LEADER Companies are to be congratulated in responding to this need and in their support of what are often the 'invisible' workers within a community.
